ADDY Decision ’08 is now history, and history we did make. What a fabulous show! The planning and execution were superb, the venue was perfect, the food was delicious, all of the creative was outstanding, the awards were great and rave reviews are still pouring in. What more could we ask for? Comments received on the show have already been posted to the website.
Again, special thanks to Susan Strenkoski of J. Fitzgerald Group and Steve Molenda of The Martin Group for creating, planning and executing this year’s show. Your energies, talents and commitment to this very important event were outstanding and raised the bar for future shows. And to the many other volunteers who made this show happen, you are the best!
Did we catch you with the camera? Special thanks to UB student Dylan Buyskes for his photography at the show. To view and purchase photos from the show, go to http://www.flickr.com/photos/dbuyskes/sets/72157604349879073.

By the time you read this, our 2008 Student Portfolio Review will be complete. We had 40 students come from RIT, UB, SUNY Fredonia, Daemen, Buff State and Villa Maria to have local professionals review their portfolios and offer them tips for success. Nancy Cardillo and Jim Charlier did their usual fine job in planning this event.
The recipients of $500 scholarships from the Advertising Club of Buffalo are:
Lindsey Reinbird, Daemen College Junior
William Tighe, RIT senior
Rebecca Rausch, Villa Maria, was chosen as alternate
To be eligible for the scholarships, students attending the portfolio review must be returning to school the following fall semester in a related course of study. Scholarships are awarded to juniors and seniors returning to school. An alternate is named in case one of the scholarship recipients does not go on to continue studies.
If you are a designer who has been out of school for at least three years, please consider volunteering next year to assist us with this important offering to our local students. Ideally we should have at least one professional for each student who attends. This is a great opportunity to view the up-and-coming talent for internships and employees, and you will have a chance to help us award two $500 scholarships the day of the Review. It’s also a great opportunity to encourage these talented young people to remain in the Buffalo area.
Sponsorships are vital to the success of this program. Special thanks to this year’s sponsors:
Eric Mower and Associates
Gelia Wells & Mohr
Hyatt’s All Things Creative
United Graphics

By the time you read this, our first Career Day will be complete as well.
The Advertising Club of Buffalo partnered with PRSA on this event, which we hope will become an annual event. There were 35 students in attendance. The program included discussions on resume and portfolio preparation, interviewing skills and a panel discussion: My Communications Career. Panelists were Tim O’Shei of Business First, Seema Bhalla of HANCI, Keith Crippen of Delaware North, Jim Hettich of Crowley Webb and Dana Marciniak of New Era Cap. The keynote speaker, Susan Makai, talked about Dressing for Success during the luncheon. Crowley Webb provided the creative. Special thanks to Beth Donovan, President of PRSA, and Rob Kubiak, Ad Club Director, for planning and executing this event. Thanks to Tricia Barrett and Jim Wannemacher who also volunteered for this new event. |

Many mentioned that the noise and continuous talking among the audience at the ADDY Awards Show was disruptive to the event and disrespectful of the speakers, winners and attendees. The Advertising Club of Buffalo has a very good reputation for the fantastic ADDY Award Shows that we produce. We would hate the reputation of many to be tarnished by a few. Next year, please consider networking during the networking/social time prior to and after the show, and then just settle back and enjoy the show. |
